DMDE CONSTRUCTORS
April 7, 2006
Lafazge North America
Western U.S. Region
10170 Church Ranch Way, Suite 200
Westminster, CO 80021
Attention: Mazk A. Vigil
RECEIVED
SEP 1 12006
Dlvlslon of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Enclosed please find the following:
1) A copy of a survey showing proposed suspension bridge and overland
conveyor.
2) Site assessment and recommendations by J&T Consulting.
I believe that the original scope of work anticipated for us was a suspension bridge and
two trusses that would span a relatively short distance. An examination of the site
indicates that you may want to change the scope of the work you what us to do.
The anticipated placement and span estimated for crossing the main channel of the river
was verified and the bridge can be designed for 250 feet.
The ground from station 0+00 to 10+00 is all in flood plain. I believe that a conveyor
operating over this azea should be elevated truss with a catwalk, either one side or two.
Minimal environmental impact could be achieved by placing footers on top of the ground
and anchoring the conveyor with cable stays. I would anticipate raising a conveyor about
eight feet above ground level to traverse this area.
The azea from station 12+00 to 15+00 crosses an island that also is in flood plain and it
should be traversed with elevated conveyor also.
The north channel of the river is approximately 150 feet bank to bank. It would take a
substantial truss to span that azea and I am recommending a suspension bridge as the
least-cost approach to spanning the channel.
The necessity of crossing some water and fairly rough terrain probably precludes getting
anything lazger than a 75 ton crane into the area. Therefore, we will need to design
relatively light platforms with more vertical cable drops on these bridges. Further, we
will need to plan on some difficulty with getting concrete placed on the island.
PO BOX 438
BERTHOUD, COLORADO 80513
TELEPHONE: (970) 532-3761
