.- s

Letter to Bob Fleming 2 January 23 1995
an approved mining area, and seeding in accordance with the
approved plan. If existing surface sands and gravels are to be
removed prior to topsoil placement in order to comply with
regulations regarding fill placement in a floodway, then care
will be exercised to avoid damaging root systems of the tress
in the area. No topsoil will be placed, or surface material
removed, in the drip zones of existing trees within the non-
mininq set-back area.
The resolution reached during the joint Cooley/DMG/DOW/UD&FCD
meeting held January 5, 1995, included a commitment to double the
tree and shrub plantings proposed in the application, and an
agreement to delete Russian Olive from the proposed species to be
planted. in the revised Reclamation Plan Narrative, a commitment to
plant 200 additional tree seedlings in Area 2A has been added, but
tree plantings in other parts of the permit area, and shrub planting
frequencies, are the same as in the original application. Please
incorporate a commitment to plant a total of 800 shrubs in Area 2A,
400 shrubs in the lake(s) periphery, and an additional 100 tree
seedlings in the lake(s) periphery. Also, although Russian Olive
has been removed from the list of potential tree species, the phrase
"or other adapted deciduous trees" remains, and could cause
confusion at the time of reclamation. Please provide a clear
statement that Russian Olive will not be planted at. the site.
4. Please include a shrub planting survivability index, along with
trees, in the minimum survival rate statement previously provided.
Please find enclosed correspondence regarding the North Dahlia Resources
Pit application from Wyco Pipeline Co. and the West Adams Soil
Conservation District. The Wyco letter is self explanatory and does not
appear to require any modification to the permit application. The Soil
Conservation District letter suggests deleting Russian Olive from the
reclamation plan, which has already been done, and raises concerns with
pit dewatering that, because of the slurry wall and dredge mining
proposed, are not applicable to this site.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Sincerel % ',,Ay-
Allen Sorenson
Reclamation Specialist
enclosure(s)
C:\WP51\DAHLIA2.ADQ
