Special Features
Pit Tm~n Slot Cut. WFC will leave a 115 foot wide by 1,700 foot long opening in the backfill spoil
in preparation for the turn of the mining operation northward in Mining Year 2000, see Exhibit
2.05.2-3 for location. The slot will begin in the northern portion of Mining Cut 33 and will extend
westwardly toward 2700 Road, see Exhibit 2.05.3-1 B for location. This open "turn" slot is necessary
to al low for a safe truck-shovel working area and for the overburden push dozers) to dump their spoil
off the coal edge when the mining operation first turns and advances northward. Exhibit 2.05.2-4
shows a typical cross section of the Pit Turn Slot Cut and volumetric are listed. WFC plans on
making up the deficit backfill volume this cut will create when it reaches the northern mining
boundary and the overburden depth decreases to near 20 foot. WFC will increase the reclamation
bond liability this slot will create. Please see Section 3.02.2-1 for details. A similar slot cut will be
needed on the east side of 2700 Road, north of BB Road. Attachment 2.05.3(3)-10 discusses this
issue.
Occasional In-Permit Area Coal Reserve Enhancement Drill Programs The New Horizon Mine
coal reserves are based on approximately 95 boreholes drilled between the mid-1980's and 1999. The
bulk were drilled by Peabody Coal Company in the 1980's with Western Fuels -Colorado (WFC)
drilling about 35 holes from 1993 to 1999. Occasionally, WFC needs to drill infill holes within the
existing array to make more certain of i[s' reserve estimations concerning various mining parameters
such as coal quality, coal and overburden thicluiess, etc. WFC anticipates that from the year 2001
and onward such infill holes will occasionally be needed. See Attachment 2.05.3(3)-12 for details.
. pa~•.~.~avozt 2.05.3(3) - 23
