EXHIBIT K
cr ir•.
t Description
The climate in the vicinity of the Hart Rok Redi Mixt
Main Gravel Pit is characterized by low humidity, abundant
' sunshine, a wide daily temperature range and generally light
' winds. The major climatic influence of the area is the Rocky
Mountains. Prevailing winds are from the southwest. Less
' frequent but important air movements from the east bring
much of the summer moisture.
~, The average annual precipitation is 11-15 inches (approx-
~~ ' imate elevation 7500 ft.); average annual soil temperature is
45° F., and the frost-free season is 75 to 100 days (U. S.
' Soil Conservation Service, 1975). Fifty-two percent of the
precipitation at Salida falls during the April-August period
with April, May, July and August averages ranging from 1.3 to
1.5 inches (Table 1).
' The average monthly temperature ranges from a low (29.7° F)
in December to a high (65.6° F) in July. The annual mean
temperature is 46.3° F (Table 2).
Evaporation data from the nearest recording station,
Pueblo (Colorado) City Reservoir, is presented in Table 3.
This station is approximately 80 miles southeast of the mine
site at an elevation approximately 2800 feet lower.
