` • I
. Received
~ SEP i } ~~^~
Spring and Seep Survey
Durango Field Office
Survey Conducted By: Harold Lurar, Jr., Vice President Operations, Mine Developmpitri~ of Minerals 8 Geology
Facility: The Neglected Mine
Location: Approximately I S miles northwest of Durango, Colorado in La Plata County
Date Conducted: Msry 8, 1996
Follow-up Survey: July 7-8, 1996
The surveyor entered the Neglected Mine on May 8, 1996 through the 65 Level Adit to conduct a survey
of the springs and seeps inside the mine workings. The spring and seep survey was requested by the
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology (CDMG) for the purpose of verifying that the areas proposed
for tailings and waste rock disposal are dry.
The areas surveyed are indicated on the attached drawing titled, "Sections of Neglected Mine, La Plata
District, Colorado". Please ncrte that the vertical cross section lines are spaced 100 feet apart, as indicated
on the scale shown at the bottom of the drawing. The main shaft is located at "0". The surveyor entered
the mine to wnduct the spring: and seep survey at 275 feet west, which is the location of the 65 Level Adit
at the surface.
The surveyor was only able to survey as far as indicated on the attached drawing, approximately 25 to 30
feet short of the main shaft. However, all areas accessible to the surveyor were observed to be dry, and
furthermore, no evidence was :Found to indicate that any of the surveyed areas ever had water in them.
275 feet west to 200 feet west: Conditions were dry to damp from humidity only. No springs or seeps
were observed.
200 feet west to l25 feet west, where the drift turns 90° to the south: Conditions were dry to damp from
humidity only. No springs or ~zeps were observed. The proposed slope area for the storage of tailings and
waste rock is located at the end of this short drift. The drift then turns 90° back to the east for
approximately 75 feet to the shaft.
The surveyor was able to progress to a location approximately 30 feet west of the main shaft, as indicated
on the drawing. Conditions wcae dry to damp from humidity only. No springs or seeps were observed.
Bad ground conditions prevent~~ further progress east.
The surveyor went back to the proposed slope area and entered it. Conditions were damp to dry with no
evidence of any past or present flows in this area of the mine.
Follow-uo Survev:
The Neglected Mine was subject to heavy rains during the July 7-8 time period. The proposed slope area
was re-entered during this period to verify that conditions in the slope area are dry during heavy
precipitation events. Conditions were again obsmed to be damp (from humidity) to dry.
Results:
The results of this spring and seep survey indicate that this proposed slope area is ideal for the permanent
storage of tailings and waste rock.
