• ~
• ESHIBIT D - MINING PLAN
INTRODIICTION
The mining operation will be an open pit sand and gravel mining
operation. The permit boundary will include a borrow area that
was excavated at the time of construction of the City of Colorado
Springs Nixon Power Plant. The proposed mining plan will begin
at the north end of this borrow area and then continue to the
north, northeast, and east. The borrow area will be reclaimed as
part of this mining permit.
The City Water Department is currently mining sand and gravel
under MLRD Permit No. M-86-017. This existing pit is located
approximately one-half mile to the west of the pit proposed under
this application. Over the next year the City plans to complete
mining operations at the existing pit because materials suitable
for our construction needs have been .mined out.
The land upon which this site is located is owned by the City of
Colorado Springs at its Hanna Ranch Property. The facilities at
the Hanna Ranch Property are operated by the Colorado Springs
Utilities and include an existing power plant and water treatment
plants (see Index Map). Access to the proposed mine site is via
paved and gravel roads that are currently part of the Utilities
operations. The gravel access road•to the site will remain after
the pit area is reclaimed as access to the U.S.B.R. right-of-way
for maintenance and repair of the Fountain Valley Authority
Pipeline.
The proposed site contains materials that will be used for
construction and installation of pipelines and other facilities
for the City~s Utilities operations. The material will be mined
and processed as required to meet various project construction
specifications. The mining site contains approximately 50.68
acres and will be mined in approximately 5 acre increments.
• Approximately 14.5 acres of the 50.68 acre permit area will be
reclamation of the old borrow pit. The area of major disturbance
is approximately 32.9 acres for the proposed mining.
