•

Gov 2 ~ ~~~~
Surface Flow Measurements MINED LAND
RECLAMATION DIVISIO^1
No flow was observed in either the Maitland or Gordon rroyos. --
During June the Crest gauge located at SW-4 was either
vandalized or a sufficient amount of flow damaged it. The
gauge was repaired in July. At this time, there was no
evidence of flow.
Surface Water Ouality
Since no flow was observed, a sample could not be taken for
quality analysis.
Ground Water Measurements
Well measurements for the third quarter of 1986 varied slightly
during the three month period. With the exception of three
wells, there were no significant changes in the water
elevation.
Well W82-6T increased 3.5 feet in August, but had fallen to
July's reading of 6229.32 feet. In a similar manner W82-8T2
had decreased 8.0 feet, but had increased in September back to
6195.27 feet. This variance can be attributed to an error in
well measuring.
Well W82-16L demonstrated a three foot drop in elevation
during September. Measurements in October are needed to
verify any significant changes.
Since very little flow was identified in the Maitland or the
Gordon Arroyos, level readings for the six alluvial wells did
not fluctuate. The most significant change was observed in
well W82-19A. A .5 foot increase was observed from July to
August.
Ground Water Ouality
Chemical analysis of the July sampling illustrates the ground
water in hydrologic sector 1 remains sodium bicarbonate/
sulfate in nature. TDS value range anywhere from 642 mg/1 to
7370 mg/1. The lower values represent the natural water in
the area, while the higher values indicate extensive
underground mining which occur extensively throughout the
area.
Concentrations of total iron are much higher for alluvial
wells Y782-17A and W82-18A than demonstrated in past results.
Although these wells are cased in iron, this should not raise
the values as high as 369 mg/1. It is possible an error was
