121 - Redcresk loam, 6 to 15 percent slopes.
'The Redcreek soil is shallow, coarse-textured and well-drained. It developed
from calcareous loamstone and sandstone. Small areas of Rentsac and Worfka soils
and rock outcrop were included in mapping. Rentsac soils are shallow and skeletal.
,~orfka soils are shallow but with fine-textures and argillic horizons. 'These
soils and rock outcrop occupy less than 20 percent of the mapping unit.
In a typical profile, the surface layer is pale brown loam about 4 inches
thick. The subsurface soil is pale brown sandy loan about 4 inch•=s thick. 'Pne
substratum is very pale brown calcareous loam about 8 inches thick and is
underlain with slightly fractured calcareous loamstone at a depth of 15 inches.
The Red creek soil has moderate permeability and medium runoff. The erosion
ha2ard is moderate to high from wind. Available waterholding capacity is moderate.
• Effective rooting depth is 10 to 20 inches.
This soil is used for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. The vegetation
is primarily big sagebrush, juniper and mixed perennial grasses and cheatgrass.
The average depth of suitable topsoil material is 8 inches. This material
is rated fair to good with suitability decreasing with depth. Care should be
taken to avoid the rock exposures.
•
