118 - Rantsac-Rock Jutcrop complex, 10 to 30 percent slopes.
This complex occurs on ridgetops and steep sideslopes at the highest
elevations and developed from calcareous loamstone and sandstone. It is comprised
of about 50 percent Rantsac loam and 35 percent rock outcrop. Small areas of
Redcreek and Moyzrson soils and rock outcrop were included in mapping. Redcreek
soils are shallow, have more clay and have less than 35 percent coarse fragments.
Moyerson soils are shallow, fine-textured, and have lass than 35 percent coarse
fragments. These included soils and rock outcrop occupy less than 15 percent
of the unit.
The Rantsac soil is shallow and well-drained. In a typical profile, the
surface layer is light yellowish brown loam about 3 inches thick. The subsurface
is very pale brown calcareous very channery loan about 3 inches thick. The
• substratum is very pale brown calcareous very channery clay loam about 7 inches
thick and is underlain with highly fractured calcareous loamstone at a depth
of 13 inches.
The Rantsac soil has moderate permeability and medium runoff. the erosion
hazard is low to moderate from wind and water. Available waterholding capacity
is moderately low. Effective rooting depth is 10 to 20 inches except For juniper.
The rock outcrop is primarily exposed loamstone with some siltstone and
sandstone bedrock which is calcareous, brown to yellow and slightly fractured.
Included with rock outcrop are very shallow skeletal soils adjacent to exposed
bedrock.
•
