n
u
117 - Rentsac loam, 5 to 20 percent slopes
The Rentsac soil is shallow, skeletal and •wall-drained. It developed from
calcareous loamstone residuum on ridgetops and upland slopes at the highest
elevations. Small areas of Redcreek and ~+loyerson soils and rock outcrop were
included in mapping. Redcreek soils are shallow, more loamy and have less than
35 percent coarse fragments. Moyerson soils are fine-textured and have less than
35 percent coarse fragments. These soils and rock outcrop occupy less than 15
percent of the mapping unit.
In a typical profile, the surface layer is light yellowish brown loam about
3 inches thick. the subsurface layer is very pale brown calcareous very channery
loam about 3 inches thick. The substratum is very pale brown calcareous very
channery clay loam about 7 inches thick and is underlain with highly fractured
• calcareous loamstone at a depth of 13 inches.
The Rentsac soil has moderate permeability and ~nediu~n runoff. The erosion
hazard is low to moderate from wind and water. Available waterholding capacity
is moderately low. Effective rooting depth is 10 to 20 inches except for juniper.
fhis soil is used for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. The vegetation
is primarily juniper, big sagebrush, mixed perennial grasses and cheatgrass around
livestock enclosures.
The average depth of suitably topsoil material is d inches. fhis material
is rated poor to fair with suitability decreasing with depth.
•
