<br />TURLEY VARIANT SERIES <br />Taxonomic Classification: Fine-loamy, mixed (calcareous), -nesic family of <br />typic Torriorthents. <br />Setting: Turley Variant soils are on broad valley-filling alluvial fans. They <br />have formed in loamy, calcareous alluvium. Slopes are 2 to 6 percent. <br />General Characteristics: Turley Variant soils are wall-drained with moderate <br />permeability and medium runoff. Vegetation is primarily big sagebrush and mixed <br />perennial grasses with larger areas of cheatgrass. Scattered greasewood occur <br />in a few units. <br />Range in Characteristics: Textures are sandy loam to loam with 14 to 18 percent <br />clay. Coarse fragment content is 0 to 10 percent. Reaction is mildly to moderately <br />• alkaline. Depth to bedrock is greater than 60 inches. Turley Variant soils differ <br />from the Turly series by having slightly less than 18 percent clay. <br />Type Location: 1900 feet east, 2600 feet south of the northwest corner of <br />Section 23, T2N, R101~.J. Pit number 4, additional pit numbers 16 and 20. <br />• <br />
