Mr. Hal Simpson •
July 25, 1994
Page 2
eventually by a lined reservoir or lake. The estimated annual
consumptive use of Cooley's Smith and Emmons shares is 126 acre
feet. The water rights will replace irrigation season
depletions. Winter depletions with be replaced by effluent from
the City of Longmont.
Figure 1 shows the water resource features in the area of the
Longmont Operation. Figure 2 is a map showing the extent of the
first phase of mining. Figure 3 shows the water surface after
reclamation. The ultimate size of the water surface is expected
to be approximately 170 acres. Mining has not commenced on this
site, therefore no water surface currently exists.
Enclosed with this plan is the application fee in the amount of
$1,343.
DEPLETIONS
Evaporation depletion of ground water will result from exposed
water in dewatering trenches and two sedimentation ponds. The
anticipated size of the sedimentation ponds is 0.5 acres each.
The surface area of water in the dewatering trenches is estimated
to be one acre. The total amount of exposed ground water is two
acres. Based on the NOAA Technical Report NWS 33 the average
annual lake evaporation is 40.5 inches per year.
The additional consumptive water uses include water lost in
product and dust suppression. The amount of product water is
assumed to be 4% by weight. Since the reclamation will consist
of native vegetation, no additional future water use is
anticipated. The monthly consumption of water by evaporation,
product loss and dust suppression is shown on Table 1.
As shown on Figure 2 the terminus of the dewatering trench is
located adjacent to the creek. The depletions to Boulder Creek
will occur immediately. The monthly consumptive use amounts
shown on Table 1 represent the depletions within the same month.
The historic. use of the land was irrigated farmland. No
phreatophyte of native vegetation consumptive use is claimed in
this plan, except when determining the amount of effective
precipitation Eo offset evaporation.
