Ivancie <br />Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 <br />(303) 422.5656 <br />Fax 422-5755 <br />July 25, 1994 O~ <br />~~ <br />Mr. Hal Simpson <br />Office of the State Engineer ~ <br />1313 Sherman St. Rm. 818 <br />Denver, CO 80203 <br />RE: Cooley Gravel Co., Longmont Pit (NERD permit pending) <br />Dear Mr. Simpson: <br />The following is a request for approval of the substitute supply <br />plan for the Longmont Pit, The format of this substitute supply <br />plan follows the draft criteria issued by the Office of the State <br />Engineer on February 26, 1994. <br />PROJECT DESCRIPTION <br />Cooley Gravel Company plans to mine sand and gravel from the <br />Boulder Creek alluvium in Weld County (Figure 1). Known as the <br />Longmont Operation, the proposed pit will be located in Sections <br />9, 16, and 17, T.2 N., R.68 W., Division 1, District 6. Cooley <br />plans to mine approximately 300,000 tons per year. The mining <br />will be accomplished by dewatering the site utilizing trenches on <br />the perimeter, and dry mining the interior. The water pumped <br />from the dewatering trenches will be discharged directly to <br />Boulder Creek. <br />The operation will consume water by evaporation from trenches and <br />sedimentation ponds, loss in product, and dust suppression. The <br />annual estimated consumption is approximately 16.4 acre feet. <br />Cooley purchased 1.5 shares of the Smith and Emmons Ditch with <br />the property. The Smith and Emmons was adjudicated on June 2, <br />1882 with an appropriation date of June 1, 1863. The location of <br />the ditch is shown on Figure 1.
