A wethod of cover sampling called
'Point Intercepts' was employed in which randow sites were
chosed to representatively cover the perwit area. At each site
called a 'transact' a 100 foot tape was laid out, and the tpye
of vegetation, or other material, was noted on one foot (1)
increments and recorded. Therefore, for each 100 foot length of
a transact 100 intercepts were noted and recorded. This method
of cover sampling is recowmended in MLRD's 'Guidelines for
Compliance with Land Use And Vegetation Requirements of the
Colorado Mined Land Reclawation Board for Coal Mining'.
The sampling procedure was completed by Mr. Bill Watson,
formerly District Conservationist with the Soil Conservation
• Service, in Trinidad, Colorado. Mr. Watson is presently on
accumulated leave from the Soil Conservation Service in
anticipation for early retirewent.
Eighteen transacts were laid out and sawpled as shown on
the Vegetation Map, No. 5. In the eighteen transacts 1800
intercepts were recorded, and these are tabulated on Map. 5 to
show species and number. A copy of Mr. Watson's original data
is shown in Exhibit H (d).
The data generated from the eighteen transacts was averaged
after compilation, and appears below the text. Only the entire
average will be discussed and not the individual transacts.
Rock accounted for 14.O6Ac of the total, bare ground 33.17Ac,
. Rev. 06/23/90
Rev. 0/04/90
