' BEAR COAL COMPANY
' STORM WATER MANAGEMENT PLAN
1. Description of Minin4 Activities
' This is an active underground mining operation. Surface
facilities support the mining operation. Coal is delivered to
the surface by a conveyor belt from the underground mine. A
' fixed stacking tube supports the conveyor. A front end loader
is used to work the coal stockpile. An automatic reclaim
system and conveyor belt delivers the coal to a 90 ton truck
' loadout bin. Highway trucks haul all of the coal from the
site. The majority of the trucks are loaded at the truck
loadout with the remainder loaded by the front end loader.
' Support buildings include an administrate office, shop and
warehouse. Mechanical work on the mining equipment is
performed at the shop facility. The warehouse contains an
inventory of equipment parts and supplies.
The fuel storage transfer area is a small bermed area where
' fuel and oil are stored. A BENTOMAT "SS" liner is installed
under the storage area to prevent seepage of oil into the
alluvium.
' During 1993 a coal screening plant will be installed in the
coal stockpile area. The primary purpose of the screening
plant is to reduce the amount of the fines in the coal that is
' hauled to the Terror Creek Loadout. Raw coal will be screened
to split the coal at about 1/4". The minus 1/4" coal will be
returned to the raw coal pile. The plus 1/4" coal will be
placed in a sized coal pile on the west end of the existing
raw coal pile and subsequently hauled to the Terror Creek
Loadout.
' The mine is located immediately southeast of the town of
Somerset, Colorado. State highway 133 is the transportation
route to the mine.
The mine permit area encompasses 1684 acres. Of this a total
of 27 acres have been disturbed.
' 2. Area Subiect to Effluent Limitations Guidelines
The area subject to effluent limitations guidelines is nearly
' the entire disturbed area. The facilities, structures and
activities that occur within the disturbed area include:
o office, shop and warehouse
o stockpiling of coal
o topsoil pile
o haul and access roads
' o fuel storage/transfer area
1
