• SOIL PROFILE DESCRIPTION - KIM SERIES <br />The Kim series consists of deep, well drained soils on terraces and <br />uplands. These soils formed in alluvium and eolian silt and fine sand <br />from sandstone. Slope is 1 to 9 percent. The average annual <br />precipitation is 11 to 15 inches, and the average annual air temperature <br />is 48 to 54 degrees F. <br />Typical pedon of Kim loam in an area of Wiley-Kim loams, 2 to 9 percent <br />slopes, 1,100 feet south and 1,000 feet east of the northwest corner of <br />Section 7, T. 28 S., R. 64 W. <br />Al-0 to 8 inches; light brownish gray (lOYR 6/2) loam, dark brown (lOYR <br />4/3) moist; weak fine granular structure; soft, very friable, slightly <br />sticky and slightly plastic; calcareous; mildly alkaline; clear smooth <br />boundary. <br />• C1-8 to 20 inches; pale brow (lOYR 6/3) loam, dark brow (lOYR 4/3) <br />moist; weak fine to medium subangular blocky structure; soft, very <br />friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; calcareous; moderately <br />alkaline; gradual smooth boundary. <br />C2-20 to 60 inches; light browish gray (lOYR 6/2) loam, dark grayish <br />brow (lOYR 4/2) moist; massive; slightly hard, friable, slightly sticky <br />sad slightly plastic; secondary calcium carbonate occurs inconsistently <br />as filaments and soft masses; calcareous; moderately alkaline. <br />Bedrock is at a depth of mare than 60 inches. The profile commonly is <br />less than 10 percent coarse fragments but ranges from 0 to 15 percent. <br />The A horizon is light brownish gray, brow, or light yellowish brown. <br />It is a loam or fine sandy loam. The A horizon is mildly alkaline or <br />moderately alkaline. <br />The C horizon is pale brow, brow, yellowish brow, light brownish <br />. gray, or light grayish brown. <br />
