E;CHIBZT D
Open Pit ~4lning
Mining Plan
The mining activity first starts xith the re-
moval of top soil and the over burden, which are two
• types of soils. Both can support the native vege-
tation, This can be seen on the soils charts. ~~2'he top
soil is piled up on the west end of the mine by scra-
pers or by our D-8 cat for storage. Here, xe have
ap~oximently 25,00.0 sq. yds. already piled. .The re-
• moval of the soil will usually take place three times
' a year based on the demand of gravel and hox good the
gravel is in that area. The depth of the top soil is
from 0-18", The depth of the over burden x111 vary from
18°A-10 feet and the depth of gravel from 0-20 feet. The .
material that%~is under the gravel is a very tight green
clay shale.
The total area affected by stripping and our mining
process usually runs betxeen 1 and 2 acres per year.
Af+,er the over burden is scraped off, the gravel is
removed xith a loader and hauled to our crushing and
washing plant. We do periodically have portable crush-
ing and screening plants make different products for us.
This is done by removing the gravel with a loader, pro-
cessing it through the plant and having the various
products stock piled in the mining area.
Some of these products stay stock piled in the area
for 2 to 4 years since they are waste products, but still
sellable Items. This accounts £or slower Beclamation in
the areas,
