15 <br />• ~ <br />• a <br />Dominants in the herbaceous category of the willow carr ref- <br />erence area 4~ere ~lrteinisia dracunculus, Linaria vulgaris, Carex and <br />Juncus spo., and Cirsium vulgare. Salix exigua was the dominant <br />shrub, and P.osz 4roodsii occurred sparsely. <br />Salix exigua is a shrubby willow with numerous long stems that <br />are crowded and sparsely branched. It occurs in moist environments, <br />in this case in the drainage of the Purgatoire River. The high cover <br />and production values for the herbaceous vegetation in the 4711104! carr <br />is a reflection of the moist environment. Enough sunlight can pene- <br />trate the willow carr to promote vegetative growth. <br />• , <br />
