ZONE 2: (8.23 acres) This large area includes a former settling
pond that has been backfilled and is partially graded. Additional £ill
will be needed on the west portion of this zone. The east portion of
this zone will be reduced in elevation up to about 4 to 6 feet and that
material will be deposited as fill in the more recent settling pond to
the south located in zones 2c and 4a.
ZONE 3: (3.04 acres) Similar to zone 1, this area primarily
includes topsoil and overburden stockpiles.
ZONE 4~ (5.85 acres) This area contains a large topsoil stockpile
on the east end (zone 4b) and a very recent nettling pond on the west
end (zone 4a). The soil will be moved during reclamation and the area
will be reduced in elevation to partially fill the settling pond.
REHABILITATION PLAN FOR AREA W
Coordination of activities is critical in the rehabilitation of
this area. The primary difficulties to be encountered include reduction
of elevation over about the eastern 1/3 of the area, and backfilling of
the western 2/3 of the operation, and the redistribution of the soil.
The following sequence describes the manner in which this area will be
treated.
STEP 1: Backfill zone 2a with waste from the operation. This
filling will be about 4 to 6 feet in the deepest areas and feather out
to zero near the zone 2a and zone 2b boundary. Filling will also occur
in zone 2c to bring it to an elevation such that drainage from zone 2a
will flow into this area without encountering steep elopes. (see
Section Aw).
STEP 2: Cut zone 2b to an elevation such that it blends into the
backfilled eastern portion of zone 2a. Push the cuttings into the
northern portions of zone 4a such that the settling pond blends
topographically with zone 2b.
STEP 3: Grade all of zone 2a, 2b, and 2c in preparation for
topsoiling. The surface will NOT be smoothed prior to topsoiling.
STEP 4: Using a scraper remove the soil from zone 4b and the
southwestern corner of zone 3 and deposit the soil on the graded land in
zone 2.
STEP 5: Cut zone 4b from 3 to 5 feet such that a slope no steeper
than 5:1 remains on the north aide near the zone 3 and zone 4 boundary.
The cuttings from this will be deposited in the settling pond in zone
4a.
STEP 6: If necessary, bring in additional waste from the operation
to complete backfilling of the settling pond in zone 4a.
STEP 7: Grade zones 4a and 4b such that they blend into zone 2 and
zone 3. Leave the surface rough.
January 21, 1992 Disturbance Reduction Plan M-73-007 Page 4
