ASLLP Appendix C <br />Well Fluid Displacement <br />Cavity Fluid Displacement Procedure <br />Upon completion of the seismic modeling phase, the fluid <br />displacement phase was initiated. The procedures for displacing the fluid <br />from AS 28-21 were as follows: <br />Nitrogen gas was directed through flow and pressure instrumentation <br />and was initiated down the short 7" casing on the well. Concurrent <br />with the gas injection, fluid from the cavity was directed from the <br />long 4'h" tubing of the well, through flow and pressure measurement <br />and combined with the wellfield production fluid and transported by <br />pump to the plant stripping facility. <br />2, An initial temperature log was performed 4/30/04. A gas cap <br />anomaly was very difficult to interpret. To verify the position of the <br />gas cap, ASLLP perforated the short string tubing at 1680' and <br />pushed the gas cap down until the gas cap pressure was expressed <br />through the pressure on the short string tubing. This insured that the <br />gas cap position was 1680'. <br />3. On 5/10/04, eighty barrels of return mine water at a temperature of <br />130 -140 degrees Fahrenheit was pumped through the long 4'/z" <br />tubing into the cavity. A series of temperature logs were performed <br />on approximately 2 hour intervals. White the individual temperature <br />logs did not express the position of the gas cap, the change <br />between the temperature logs gave a very good anomaly at the gas <br />cap /solution interface. <br />4, To prevent operational problems associated with pumping cool fluid <br />into the cavity, the procedure to locate the gas cap was revised to <br />locate the gas cap every 7 - 10 days. The nitrogen gas injection rate <br />and nahcolite brine production rate were slowed to enhance <br />resolution. <br />5. An average production fluid flow rate of approximately 10 gallons <br />per minute from the cavity was maintained while injecting <br />approximately 60 scfm of nitrogen gas. <br />6. These rates were maintained from 5/10/04 until 5/21 /04. <br />
