CONVEYOR RECLAIMED AREA
• Plant Cover. The results obtained from the cover sampling of this site aze presented in Table 3,
Conveyor Reclaimed Area Plant Cover. This summary documents that a total of 42 different
plant species were encountered in the cover sampling of this site. The total plant cover found on
this site was found to average 55.20 percent, and allowable plant cover was determined it was
found to average 48.65 percent. Annual grasses accounted for 1.73 percent of the total plant
cover on this site while annual and biennial forbs accounted for 9.42 percent of the total cover on
this site. Whitetop, a listed noxious weed was encountered in one transect and accounted for a
total of 0.20 percent of the total cover on this site. Examination of Table 2, Edna Mine Sample
Adequacy Calculations, reveals that the allowable plant cover on this site was sampled to the 90
percent confidence interval.
The dominate plant species growing on this site was found to be Western Yarrow, which
accounted for 21.87 percent of the total vegetation growing on this reclaimed site, while the next
most common species found was Rocky Mountain Penstemon, which accounts for 7.25 percent
of the total cover growing on this site. Perennial forb cover on this site was found to be higher
than was the cover of perennial grasses.
Upon comparing the plant cover data collected from this site from the 1998 revegetation
monitoring effort it can be determined that there has been an increase in total plant cover. The
average total plant cover in 1998 was found to average 44.27 percent while in 1999 this value
was found to equal 55.20 percent. A total of 43 total plant species were encountered in the I S
• transects sampled in 1998, while in 1999 a total of 42 different plant species were encountered.
Of interest in the fact that in 1998 Yellow Sweetclover accounted for 21.23 percent of the total
plant cover while in 1999, this value had declined to only 2.13 percent. In terms of absolute
cover, Western Yarrow increased in cover from 9.4 percent in 1998 to 12.07 percent in 1999. In
a similaz manner, in 1998 noxious weeds accounted for 3.16 percent of the total plant cover on
this site while in 1999 this value was only 2.65 percent of the total cover. This decline suggests
that the weed control program being practiced by the Edna Mine appears to be controlling the
tazgeted noxious weeds.
MOFFAT RECLAIMED AREA
Plant Cover. The results obtained from the cover sampling of this site are presented in Table 4,
Moffat Reclaimed Area Plant Cover. A total of 52 different plant species were encountered in
the cover sampling of this site. The overall average total plant cover was determined to equal
52.60 percent, and the allowable plant cover was determined to equa148.74 percent. Annuals
and biennials at this location accounted for a total of 14.07 percent of the relative cover on this
reclaimed area. In addition, a listed noxious weed, Whitetop which appeazs to have been
introduced on this site either through contaminated mulch or seed was encountered in one hit on
one of the cover transects. Examination of Table 2, Edna Mine Sample Adequacy Calculations,
reveals that allowable plant cover was achieved in the cover sampling of this site.
The dominate plant species contributing to the plant cover on this site was determined to be the
• rhizomatous grass, Kentucky Bluegrass, which contributed 26.24 percent of the relative cover on
