Along each transect tape sampled in the Moffat Reclaimed Area shrub density <br />data was collected using a modified belt transect by sampling one meter along each side of the <br />transect tape. The right hand side of the transect tape was called Side A and the left hand side of <br />the tape was called Side B. Data collected from each side were added into a transect value which <br />represents the number of shrubs sampled in the 100 squaze meter sample plot. These data were <br />then converted into the number of shrubs per acre as outlined in the Petmit. The Permit standazd <br />for shrub density on the Moffat Reclaimed site is 1,000 stems per acre. <br />Statistical Analysis of Data. As required by the Division's Guidelines, it is not necessary to <br />achieve sample adequacy for interim reclamation monitoring and a minimum often transects on <br />each reclaimed site being sampled is recommended. In this analysis, however, the determination <br />was made that sample adequacy would be achieved in the sampling conducted on the Conveyor <br />Reclaimed Site as well as on the two reference areas. A total of 20 sample plots were sampled on <br />each site sampled for purposes of defining the interim revegetation success. However, all of the <br />data collected in this evaluation were analyzed for sample adequacy in order to define future <br />sampling efforts. <br />On the three sites sampled for sample adequacy, all of the field data were analyzed in terms of <br />total plant cover to determine whether sample adequacy was achieved prior to leaving the site <br />being sampled. On the Conveyor Reclaimed Site and on the two reference azeas sampled, the <br />• minimum sample size of 15 samples, as required by the Division's Guidelines was sampled and <br />the data were analyzed for sample adequacy. Sample adequacy based on allowable plant cover <br />were determined in the office as soon as possible after the field data were collected to detennine <br />whether a sufficient number of samples had been collected. <br />Results <br />Field Sampling Dates. All of the field data utilized in this evaluation were collected between <br />August 3-14, 1999. At the time of all of the field sampling, the plants were actively growing and <br />it is believed that the sampling was conducted during an optimum period of growth, when the <br />plant cover and production was near its peak. In this evaluation a total of 117 plant species were <br />identified in the 125 cover transects and 20 shrub density transects sampled in this evaluation. A <br />list of all of the plant species encountered in the field sampling efforts in this evaluation aze <br />presented in Table 1, Edna Mine Plant Species List. <br />Sample Adequacy. A statistical analysis of the data collected to characterize the plant cover and <br />production from the two mine sites evaluated in this sampling effort are presented in Table 2, <br />Edna Mine Sample Adequacy Comparisons. This comparison documents-that a sufficient <br />number of samples were collected to describe the pazameters of allowable plant cover at the 90 <br />~J <br />
