• The Pitkin hlesa Pipeline, which is frequently referred
to as an aqueduct, runs from the northern boundary to the
southern boundary of tl~e proposed long-term lease area. It
is mostly located within Stevens Gulch on the west side of
ttie creek, but passes out of the Stevens Gulch drainage
at the boundary between Sections 1 and 12. The original
line, built about 1937, consists of a 9-inch iiameter steel
pipe, which carries water from a series of springs and seeps
4.2 miles north of the Orchard Valley Mine area. When CWI
developed their Stevens Gulch well field in 1981, the
original aqueduct was replaced by a 6-inch plastic pipe
above the well field. The Pitkin Mesa Pipeline Company
serves about 150 users at Pitkin Mesa with the pipeline. CWI
gets overflow water from the pipeline when the Pitkin Mesa
water tanks are full.
Roads
The Stevens Gulch road is the principal road which
crosses the proposed long-term lease area. This is a light
duty road wi*_h an improved surface which crosses from the
southern to the northern boundary of the area. It provides
access to the CWI pumphouse and well field, the Muckle House
restaurant, and properties north of Stevens Gulch. There are
several culverts and bin walls along the road where it
• crosses the proposed long-term lease area.
An unimproved dirt road follows East Roatcap Creek from
the southern boundary of the proposed long-term lease area
northward for about a mile before terminating. An unimproved
dirt road follows approximately the alignment of the
transmission line along Terror Creek. Unmaintained trails
provide access to drill sites, ponds and structures within
the area.
Bridges
The Stevens Gulch road crosses a bridge near the north
end of Section 1 by surface water monitoring station SW 4.
The Terror Creek road crosses a bridge at its junction with
West Fork.
•
- 19 -
