• o Ila}~ Production/Pasture
These are areas of Grazing Pasture/Meadow which are
capable of supporting hay crops. They are designated as such
by virtue of their size and location, in view of local
agricultural practice. These areas are capable of supporting
up to 3 tons per acre of grass hay or 4 tons per acre of
alfalfa hay. Irrigation is required for any crop use.
o Forestland
Most of these areas are non-commercial forest,
consisting of aspen, scattered spruce, and gambel oak.
o Private Structures
Private structures in the study area are mostly
residential and ranch-related structures.
o CWI Mine Related Structures
These include all structures on the Orchard Valley
Mine site. Also included are structures at the well field in
Stevens Gulch and the associated pipelines.
• Private and mine-related structures ar~° described in
more detail in Section 3.9, Buildings and Structures.
o Abandoned Mine/Prospect
Two significant abandoned mines are located in the
study area, Farmers Mine and the Converse Mine. A smaller
mine or a prospect is also located in Stevens Gulch. All of
the mines were for coal extraction.
3.2 SURFACE IvATER
The proposed lease area contains several streams. Only
one of them, Terror Creek, is perennial. It also contains
numerous small ponds, both natural and man-made.
Terror Creek flows outside the proposed lease area. At
tfie northeast corner of the area, it is still some 1,300
feet from the lease boundary. The distance from the lease is
greater at other locations. i'error Creek has the largest
drainage area of all streams (about 30.5 mi2). A reservoir,
Terror Creek Res~arvuir, was constructed several miles
upstream from the north lease boundary and improves the
summer flow o: .he Free:;.
