• 5. The 5 percent porosity value was not used in any calcula- <br />tions in the report. This value was calculated based on estima- <br />ted storage changes and recharge volumes during the recharge <br />period. The estimate of storage change in the eastern backfill <br />area was extrapolated from the water level fluctuations in the <br />spoil wells in the western area. It is recognized that these <br />calculations are based on very limited data and are rather crude. <br />It was performed merely as a check to see if estimated recharge <br />rates and charges in water levels appeared to be consistent. The <br />5 percent figure that resulted from the calculation is lower than <br />would be expected and probably indicates that the 25 feet water <br />level fluctuation seen in the western backfill area would not <br />seen in the eastern backfill area which has a more stable <br />hydrologic regime. Consequently, this part of the report has <br />been revised in the final version, and does not attempt to <br />calculate a porosity value. If piezometers are installed in the <br />eastern backfill area this type of calculation may be performed <br />with more confidence. <br />6.
