Larson
Phone/Fax (970) 325-4600
November 7, 1997
Durango Feld Office
Division of Minerals & Geolop/
The following material is in response to your adequacy letter of
October 30, 1997.
EXHIBIT B - Location Map: Enclosed is an enlargement of the drainage
above the permit area. The area outlined in red shows the potential
watershed. This is approximately 1500' long by 150' wide (a little
over 5 acres). The watershed is very limited due to the fact that
this drainage is created by a localized fault. The gentler slope
above and east of this fault sheds moisture to the north as indicated
by the arrows. The volume of runoff from a 1/2" event would produce
approximately 70,000 gallons (plus debris). This fault channel has
not produced water &/or debris that has crossed the highway in recent
history (50 years at least). The area to the north and south of
this channel have no evidence of flooding; thus, no damage to the
highway has occurred nor is anticipated.
Post-mining channeling of the runoff and containment of debris will
be addressed as dart of the City of Ouray's planning/permitting
process. It is important that the City be the entity to address the
final channeling and containment, as part of their storm water
control.
EXHIBIT C - Mining Plan: In preparing the site, it is proposed not to
strip the topsoil because of its thin, rocky nature. 'Five holes were
dug along the proposed access road within the permit area. The
results were as follows:
Hole #1 (at north end of access road):
6-7" Topsoil
clayey sand intermixed with rounded gravel up to 5" dia.
Hole #2 (along access road - south of Hole #1):
2-3" Topsoil
sandy clay with angular rocks up to 3" dia.
Hole #3 (midway along access road - south of,I;ole•#2}:
No Topsoil
clayey sand (75$) & gravel (25~) w/rocks. up to 2" dia.
Hole #4 (along access road - south of Hole #3):
No Topsoil
• clayey sand (30~) & rocks (70~) up to 5" dia.
Hole #5 (along access road - south of Hole #4):
3-4" Topsoil
sandy clay w/ angular rocks up to 3" dia.
These shallow topsoil depths do not warrant stockpiling of this
material.
Bob Oswald
Division of Minerals & Geology
484 Turner Drive, Building F #101
Durango, Co 81301
RE: Memphis, File No. M-97-084
Bob
U~~'~ :~i._r•r Ali=FILE
PUBL;C FILI` COPY Received
FILE: ~-9}--084- !l01-1 0 1997
~1TE:_~_ s____-
