The barium values for
Well 19-2 throughout the quarter (2.88 mg/L, 2.49 mg/L, 2.95 mg/L) are all slightly
elevated and do not return to a level below the established early warning indicator (2.35 mg/L).
The January sample also indicates a barium concentration (2.67 mg/L] that is slightly above
the EWI. No other indicator parameters monitored at this location during this period are
elevated. Well 1 &2 is upgradient and outside the boundaries of the O - 5 year mining panel.
Well 19-2 has an unusual history that may, in some way, be a contributing factor to the
unusual barium values. A copy of the well history summary for Well 19-2 is attached.
American Soda will continue to monitor barium at Well 19-2 on a monthly frequency. American
Soda does not feel that the elevated barium values are indicative of solution cavity failures.
Samples of the production wells process stream taken during the same time intervals indicate
values of barium at levels generally slightly below the values indicated in Well 19-2.
Injection and Production Stream Samples (ConfidenfaalJ
American Soda is required to sample well field injection and production streams for water
quality chemical constituents on a monthly frequency for the first six months of operation.
Production stream samples were collected in November and December. There are two sample
ports for the production stream in the well field. One sample part is located in the lower well
field upstream of the booster pump house and one is located in the upper well field upstream of
the booster pump. A prtimary and duplicate sample was collected on November 18, 2000 from
each section of the production stream and the injection stream to obtain the required chemical
constituents and to determine the variability of the data far future samples. In December each
of the production streams were sampled once and a quality assurance quality control duplicate
of the injection stream was collected. Tedlar bags were used to collect the gas samples. This
data is provided to you as a separate attachment and is marked as Confidential Business
Information.
