D. Chokecherry community
• 1. Pre-mine woody plant density
Parameters and sample areas not listed were deemed satisfactory, and there-
fore no additional field work was requested.
Additional data were collected on parameters in the above list, with the
exception of woody plant density data in the aspen and oak reference areas.
Yampa Mining Company will propose alternative densities for determining the
success standard for woody plant density, therefore woody plant densities
which would have been measured in the reference areas are not necessary.
The additional field data collection was accomplished at the mine in
August, 1981. Field sampling methods were the same as those described in
the vegetation reference areas study (Appendix G, Subsection 2), Sections
2.2 - 2.5. The statistical analysis was revised from that described in
Section 2.6, and now conforms with the approach desired by CMLR.
• The major importance of resampling was to collect additional data where the
1980 data had been deemed insufficient, and to collect new data sets when
1980 data could not be combined with 1981 data. For woody plant density,
which changes only slightly from year to year, 1981 data was combined with
1980 data for the new statistical estimates. For percent foliage cover,
which was resampled on the sagebrush mine and reference areas, the 1981
measurements were comparable to the 1980 measurements and were therefore
combined with them. In a telephone conversation on Tuesday, August 25,
1981, David Duba spoke with Mike Savage on the acceptability of combining
data from the two years. After hearing the mean cover values measured in
the two years, Mr. Savage said it was acceptable to combine the data.
Completely new data was generated for productivity estimates_tn_1981,, no
attempt was made to combine this with 1980 data.
2.0 STATISTICAL METHODS AND RESULTS OF 1981 SAMPLING
The statistical analysis for sample adequacy applied to the data was based
• on a computation of t, according to the following formula:
637C2
