•
ADDITIONAL VEGETATION INFORMATION
ADDENDUM TO APPENDIX G, SUBSECTION 2
VOLUME III
HAYDEN GULCH MINE PERMIT APPLICATION
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The information contained in this report is being provided as an addendum
to Appendix G, Subsection 2, Volume III, the vegetation reference areas
study. The need for this information became apparent after technical
review of the reference areas study by CMLR personnel. Their review indi-
cated that intensity of sampling was not adequate for some of the sample
areas and parameters; these would therefore require resampling.
•
The original study sampled four (4) vegetation types on the area to be
mined, and four (4) reference areas. These were the aspen, sagebrush,
Gambel oak, and chokecherry vegetation types. Each was sampled for produc-
tivity and cover of herbaceous vegetation and density of woody vegetation.
Subsequent to the technical review, discussions between Mr. Mike Savage and
Mr. Brian Munson, Reclamation Specialists with CMLR, and Mr. David Duba,
Senior Environmental Engineer with Morrison-Knudsen Company in Boise,
Idaho, determined the additional requirements for vegetation sampling.
These were listed in a memo from Mr. Savage to Mr. Munson, dated July 27,
1981, and attached to this report. The following parameters were listed
for resampling:
A. Aspen community
1. Reference area productivity and woody plant density
2. Pre-mine productivity and woody plant density
B. Sagebrush community
1. Pre-mine productivity,
2. Reference area cover
cover, and woody plant density
C. Oak community
•
1. Pre-mine woody plant density
2. Reference area woody plant density
637C 1
