Drainage Control - Outside berm for all uphill drainage. Due to a long
• stretch of outcropping sandstone along this segment of
road, all drainage will be carried along an outside
berm. Road width used in calculation = 22 ft.
Although the road width is sufficient to carry the
design storm at 0.27 ft and encompasses 15.11 ft of
road surface, the remaining road width does not
provide the necessary freeboard of 0.3 ft (in height).
Therefore, the berm will be maintained at a minimum of
2 ft in height to ensure that all design drainage plus
freeboard is contained between the outside berm and
road inslope. A water cross-over is also provided at
11B to enable road surface drainage trapped along the
inslope to drain toward the V-ditch beginning at 12A.
