RECEIVED Rub 3932.6fOt- BA.O fa) The quarrying of the monolithic sandstone bed shall be accomplished in three vertical stages, or benches, for each of the East Side and West Side areas. The two azeas are roughly divided by a pre- existing, un-reclaimed sandstone quarry, mined already for about a third of the depth of the "Dakota sandstone" caprock sedimentary bed. Both FixsrBENCaES of the East and West Sides (approx. floor elevation 6,490) wilt be extracted before beginning the SECOND BENCHES, in order to be able to utilize the temporary pit floors for processing and stockpiling. Rock material to be mined shall be drilled and shot to specified rough size, then sorted and piled by a tracked bulldozer to rip rap (over-size) and crusher-sized piles. A wheeled front-loader shall be used to toad the crusher intake hopper, and to place piles of sorted rip rap which will pushed over the south edge of the mesa to a rip rap stockpiling and dispensing area on the north side of Kernan (McElmo Creek) Canyon at the foot of the mesa slope. Crushed and screened (sized) rock and reject-fines will be conveyed to stockpiles by means of belted conveyors and stackers, and sometimes by front- loader. Processing and stockpiling of aggregate products will be initially performed both within the pre-existing quarry excavation and on the un- mined mesa top to the west of the quarry. lnf The in-place thin surface soils cannot be practically salvaged with available equipment in any quantity for post mining reclamation spreading. Woody vegetation shall be stripped by bulldozer and disposed of by burning. The final shots at the property boundaries (15-ft set-back) shall be drilled to incorporate a roughly quarter-to-one ('/4-H 1-~ final backwall, eventually having 6- to 12-foot wide horizontal benches for each 12-foot depth of slope, for a staggered-bench backwall effect.
