Mathews
Mined Land Reclamation Division
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
Re: Bear No. 3 Response to Clarification
of Bear No. 3 Stipulation Response
Dear Dan:
I appreciate your assistance in working with Eldon Strid and Jon Pratt
of this office regarding additional information needed on the
• stipulations for the Bear No. 3 Mine. The following responses are in
regard to the clarifications requested in your letter of June 22,
1982.
Stipulation No. 1
I. Design and Layout of Treatment System
Method of Treatment
The method of treatment to be utilized by Bear Coal Company
will be a continuous application of pre-mixed flocculent or
coagulant. The typical design of the planned system is
shown on Figure 1. The location of the distribution point
is shown on the Drainage and Sediment Control Plan Map (Map
S-1).
B. Type and Dimensions of Mixing Chamber
The mixing of the coagulant will be completed in two stages.
Initial mixing of the coagulant with water will be completed
in the filter dam/dugout pond. The second portion of the
mixing will take place as the water flows through the Ditch
"D" into the sediment control structure. The filter
dam/dugout pond will be able to contain about 136 cu ft of
• water. The channel length in which mixing will occur is
approximately 170 feet.
