A grading plan of the proposed
development as provided by Sehmueser iE Associates, Inc., is shown
on Fig. 1. Clien and Associates, Inc., previously conducted a
preliminary gootvchnical investigation for proposed surface mine
fecilitico in the same general area as the current etudy uhieh
included field mapping Of the aurfaoe geologic conditions and
exploratory boring dri]ling. She report uas submitted to Dravo
Corporation dated November 10, 1983, Job No. 25,999• The find-•
ings of the previous report have been used to supplement this
report where deemed appropriate.
A field exploration program consisting of exploratory borings
uas conducted to obtain information on subsurface conditions.
Samples obtained during Lt~e field cxplor~aLion were tested in file
la~uralur-y Lu Jeterrnine the classification and engineering char-
acteristics of the on-site soils. The results of the field
exploration and laboratory testing were analyzed to develop
recommendations t'or t'oundation types, depths and allowable pres-
sures in the dewatering building and thickener site. The date
was also analyzed to provide generol comments regarding grading
and surface drainage. Tt~e results of fire field cxplor•ation and
{ Lhe labor-atoe•y testing program are presented herein.
This r•epor•t has been prepared to summarize the data ebtained
during this study and to present our conclusions and recommcndo-
Chen & Associates
