James McArdale Page 2 October 18, 1983
2. Please see soils descriptions in Mrs. Espegren's report.
3. There are 0.5 acres of "topsoil", with an average depth of
two feet (2'). The gravel layer extends to the surface in the
remaining 19 acres of the mining area. The top 6" to 12" of that
contains smaller gravels and more fines, and can be stockpiled
for reclamation use. While the material is not high quality topsoil,
it is native and can support the "desert" reclamation proposed.
H. Exhibit L - Reclamation Costs
2. Phase 1 - overburden will be stockpiled at the process site
for a maximum haul of 750 feet. 8125 c.y. of stored overburden
and processed fines will be spread to a minimum depth of 6".
Phase 2 - overburden will be stockpiled at the process site for
a haul of 700 feet. 1400 c.y. of overburden and processed fines
will be spread to a minimum depth of 6".
Phase 3 - overburden will be stockpiled at the northeast corner
of Phase 4 for a 500 foot maximum haul. 3125 c.y. of overburden
and processed fines will be required for 6" of coverage.
Phase 4 - overburden will be stockpiled at the northeast corner
of Phase 5, for a 700 foot maximum haul. 4450 c.y. of material
will be placed as above.
Phase 5 - overburden wil b stockpiled at the southwest corner
of Phase 4 for a haul of 550 feet. 2725 c.y. of material will
be placed as above. Reclamation of Phase 5 will include the
stockpile area (400 s,f.±) in Phase 4, and the Process Area
(2 Ac.) of Phase 1.
3. Reclamation will be done in the same year as the mining op-
eration, and will be the last step of that operation. On each
phase the slopes will be final graded and the overburden spread
as outlined above. Each phase will then be hydroseeded with native
desert grasses in late October taking advantage of the irrigation
canal water for the seeding and the winter moisture. The exception
to this is the process area which will be reclaimed with Phase 5.
The reclamation schedule and acres can be projected as:
Phase 1 - 8 acres disturbed with 6 acres reclaimed - 1984
Phase 2 - 1.4 acres disturbed and reclaimed - 1985
Phase 3 - 3.1 acres disburbed and reclaimed - 1986
Phase 4 - 4.4 acres disturbed and reclaimed - 1987
Phase 5 - 2.7 acres disturbed with 4.7 acres reclaimed - 1988
If economic conditions and the demand for the gravel were to
improve greatly and unexpectedly, this schedule could be ac-
celerated by combining Phases 1 & 2, and Phases 3, 4 and 5 for
disturbances of 9.4 acres and 10.2 acres respectively.
