iii iuiuiiiiiiiiii <br />~j I~ • PART 744 - PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR FEDERAL LANDS <br />Doc Date:1 2/1 112 0 01 <br />• Section 744.11 Performance standards: Exploration. <br />Coal exploration on Federal lands within a permit area shall be con- <br />ducted pursuant to the requirements of the permit, 30 CFR 815, and the <br />following -- <br />(a) Surveillance wells. After approval of <br />consultation with the Mining Supervisor and <br />B15.15(h) and 30 CFR 816.14 or 817.14 drill <br />lized as surveillance wells for the purpose <br />subsequent operations upon the quantity, qua <br />water or mine gases. <br />the Regional Director, in <br />in accordance with 30 CFR <br />or bore holes may be uti- <br />of monitoring the effect of <br />31ity, or pressure of ground <br />Energy Fuels will conduct its exploration program in full com- <br />pliance with the requirements of its approved permit, 30 CFR 815 <br />and 744.11 (a)(b)(c), as described below. Compliance measures are <br />• set forth in the discussion below and the discussion under Section <br />815. <br />Some exploration drill holes will be left open for utilization as <br />surveillance wells for the purpose of monitoring ground water <br />quantity and quality in order that premining baseline data can be <br />established and in order to comply with 30 CFR 816.52. In such <br />cases, the drill holes will be completed with piezometers and the <br />drill sites reclaimed consistent with the reclamation procedures <br />discussed in Section 780.18. These holes will be completed in <br />accordance with the requirements of 30 CFR 815.15 (h) and 30 CFR <br />816.14. Additional information is set forth in the discussion <br />under 30 CFR 815.15 and 816.14. <br />(b) Blowout control devices. When drilling on lands that are valuable <br />or potentially valuable for oil and gas or geothermal resources, the <br />person conducting coal exploration shall, when required by the Regional <br />Director in consultation with the Mining Supervisor, set and cement <br />casing in the hole and install suitable blowout prevention equipment. <br />744-1 <br />
