<br />• <br />3/86 <br />SP--Satanta-Sampson loss. 0 to 3 percent slopes. This map unit is <br />on nearly level btroad terraces along intermittant streams. The native <br />vegetation is mainly shortgrass and midgrass. the average annual <br />precipitation is about 13 to 17 inches. <br />lttis twit is 40 percent Satanta loam and 30 percent Sampson loam. <br />Included in this twit aze small areas of Cass sandy loam, Gilcrest sandy <br />loam, Haverson loam, and R.~.~;~ silt loam. Also included are small areas of <br />steep banks and active charcoals. Included areas make up about 30 percent of <br />the total acreage. ZYte perc:antage varies fray one area to another. <br />The Satanta soil is deep and well drained. It formed in mixed loess and <br />alltrvitm derived domin~ttly from sedimentary rock. Typically, the surface <br />layer is grayish brown loam 10 inches thick. the upper 13 inches of the <br />subsoil is grayish brown clay loam. The lower 9 inches is grayish brown <br />calcareous clay loam. The next layer is a grayish brown calcaz~eous loam 8 <br />inches thick. The aubstrattaa to a depth of 60 inches or more is pale brown <br />calareous loam. <br />Permeability of the Satanta soil is moderate. Available water capacity <br />is high. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. RtIDOff is slow, and <br />the hazazd of water erosion is slight. The hazard of soil blowing is <br />moderate. <br />The Sampson soil is deep and well drained. It formed in me~.liun texttn-ed <br />alluvitm derived dominantly from sedimentary rock. Typically, tie surface <br />layer is brown loam 6 inches thick. The upper 23 inches of the subsoil is <br />grayish brown clay loam. The lower 9 inches is dark gray clay loam. The <br />substratum to a depth of 60 inches or more is pale brown sandy c'_ay loam. <br /> <br />
