<br />AIRPORT GRAVEL PIT <br />SECTION II <br />Soil Inventory <br />St - Fort Collins Clay loam, 0-3% slopes <br />This is a deep, well drained soil. Typically the surface layer is <br />clay loam 12 inches thick. The upper 11 inches of the subsoil is <br />clay loam, and the lower 7 inches is loam. The substratum to a <br />depth of 60 inches or trore is very fine sandy loam. The soil is <br />mildly alkaline to a depth of 12 inches and is moderately alkaline <br />and calcareous below this depth. Pextreability is moderately slow, <br />available water capacity is high. <br />MzB - Manzanola silty clay loam, 1 to 4% slopes <br />This soil is deep and well drained. Typically, the surface layer <br />is silty clay loam 5 inches thick. The subsoil is silty clay loam <br />21 inches thick. The upper 14 inches of the substratum is silty <br />clay loam, the next 6 inches is silt loath, and the lower part to <br />a depth of 60 inches or more is silty clay loam. The soil is cal- <br />careous, moderately alkaline, and slightly saline throughout. <br />Permeability is slow and available water capacity is high. <br />SECTION III <br />Vegetative Inventory <br />Range Site Descriptions <br />Loattry Plains (L.P.) - Nbderately well developed loamy soils of this <br />site t e in sunnier moisture reasonably well. The dominant grasses, <br />Blue grams, and galleta respond quickly and may produce in a favor- <br />able year up to 1000 pounds forage per acre. Western Wheat, Side <br />oats grams, fourwir~ saltbush, Indian rice grass and winterfat, make <br />up remainder of the plant comtnnzity. Production is almost entirely <br />dependent on surnrer troisture. Stands of cholla cactus are present <br />in sere areas. <br />SEI~'ION IV <br />Climate and Elevation <br />Average annual precipitation for this area is approximately 16 inches. <br />Nine (9) inches will normally occur from May through September and <br />seven (7) inches is the average from October through April. <br />
