52.04 APPLICATION FOR PERMIT FOR SIIRFACE OR UNDERGROUND MINING ACTIVITIES --
_ MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR INFORMATION ON ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES.
2.04.3 General Requirements: Site Description and Land Dse Information.
(2) (a) (Cont'd,)
The Orchard Valley Mine has been in place on the permit
area since 1975, specifically, at the same site as a
precursor, Converse Mine. 'Die historic land use of the
general area where the surface facilities are situated
has been coal mining and to some extent grazing, al-
though this land has a very low feed productivity for
livestock.
The agricultural land in the North Fork Valley consists
of three (3) types: rangeland, woodland, and irrigated
land.
The irrigated land is made up of: pastures, haylands,
small grainlands, and orchards. However, orchards only
make up 8-9 % of the irrigated land, All irrigation
water is a direct result of snowpack and rainfall run-
off through irrigation canals and laterals. A11 irri-
gation is by the means of corrigates or furrows.
Livestock in the North Fork Valley are wintered on
farms and ranches located throughout the Valley and are
summered in the high country. Few feedlots, few dair-
ies, and few farrow fattening operations are located in
this area.
The area of the Orchard Valley West Mine site has his-
torically been utilized for livestock grazing and wild-
life utilization. An existing unimproved road, a Bu-
reau of Land Management right-of-way, which is utilized
to access property north of the OVWM site, traverses by
the OVWM site and a portion improved to access the
site.
(b) No answer required.
( i) As confirmed by the Soil Conservation Service
(SCS), present and potential productivity of
the soils which have been disturbed by the
existing operations and continued operation of
the Orchard Valley Mine are:
.
