more management and very likely would create a community of individuals
• that would, in mass, have a broad moisture tolerance range in naturally
a rather arid environment. In other words, artificial augmentation of
precipitation deficits to produce a short series of more or less
average growing seasons would produce a vegetation well adapted to
survive in average years. This could end up producing a long-term
management dependency. Such would not be entirely undesirable at this
quarry as the reclamation will allow some management to occur, but it
is not advantageous to economical maintenance of the site. Therefore,
no irrigation is recommended.
For the above reasons Castle Concrete Company contends the
existing spoil materials are suitable to complete the reve3etation
portion of the overall reclamation plan and will use these materials as
the plant growth medium in place of the soils that unfortu:zately were
• destroyed prior to the time that a general concern for min~:d land
reclamation was apparent. When combined with a good seed mixture we
believe this medium will produce as good a growth as the o~:iginal
soil. We believe this procedure will fully comply with the rules and
regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board.
. S-I-4
