This berm will be 10 to 20 feet wide in the center and wi].1 have a 2:1
• slope on both sides. The ultimate height of the berm wil]. be about 50
feet above the bedroc}: and will be about 220 feet thic}: at. the base.
The material that goes into the berm includes waste rock
boulders in the depths of the berm. Over these boulders fine materials
are placed to provide a plant growth medium for revegetation. As will
more clearly he indicated in the reclamation plan, this berm will be
planted with trees and will provide a visual screen for the operation
from most areas of Manitou Springs.
EARTHPIOVING - In this operation there is virtually no earth moving done
other than as a part of the extractive process. Topsoils need not be
stripped as there are none to strip. The berm is a reclamation activity
and will be explained in the reclamation plan.
G7ATER DIVERSIONS AND IMPOUNDMENTS - This subject is covered in the T9ater
• P.esources exhibit. Basically, though, the only water cour:ae that is
affected is an intermittent stream. The mine occupies nea:-ly all of the
original contributing area of this small drainage. The pi-. and berm
will serve as a sediment basin and thereby any water which falls on the
area will be retained and will either evaporate or be absorbed by the
ground. Essentially, the operation has little effect on welter resources.
SIZE OF AREA TO BE WORKED AT AITY ONE TIPdE AND TIMETABLE - des was
explained in the mining plan the area needed for operation of the mine
equals the mine area less the small area to be reclaimed ors the sight
and sound barrier berm. At any moment of time the area being operated
would be rather small, probably no more than 3 acres plus t:he area for
portals. f?owever, the purpose of prompt reclamation cannot. be
•
S-D-S
