~,
~~
EXHIBIT ~
PIINING PLAN
~
Mining of
material borrow area C will provide a pervious bedding
for construction of the Windy Gap pipeline from
the diversion dam area to Lake Granby, and material for
continued maintenance operations over a period of years.
Mining operations will begin at the southerly end of the
bench and continue northward. It is estimated that a maximum
of 36,000 cubic yards of bedding material would be removed
from this site. The site obviously has a capacity well in
excess of 36,000 cubic yards.
MINING METHODS
Because the material is not compacted, no blasting is
anticipated to remove the aggregate material. Bulldozers,
scrapers, front loaders, and haul trucks will be the primary
instruments of mining. The topsoil will be removed from the
bench and stored as indicated on Figure C-2. It is estimated
that approximately 4 feet of overburden will have to be
removed from the top of the bench in those areas affected by
mining. The overburden material will be stored and seeded.
WATER RESOURCES
Development of this borrow area should not impact water
resources. No dewatering operations are anticipated because
of the relative elevation of the mining area to surrounding
water courses. Some application of water may be required for
control of fugitive dust. It is anticipated that the
contractor will purchase this water from a local source with
an established water right. Drainage will be effected in
such a manner so as not to cause sediment loading in Willow
Creek. It is anticipated that drainage will be towards Willow
1 Creek; however, a large, wide intervening meadow will filter
any runoff prior to its intercepting Willow Creek.
TIMETABLE
The timetable for mining and reclamation activities is shown
on Table D-1. The table is based on the assumption that the
contract will be awarded in June, 1981, a nd that construction
will begin in July, 1981. It is possible that the contract
could be awarded as late
a delay of project initia as August, 1981,
tion if that occ and there could be
urs. Topsoil removal
in the pervious borrow ar ea would begin i n July, 1981, and
actual mining of the area may occur then. Active use of the

' D-1
