EXHIBIT B 5
Site Description
The site has been previously mined for State Highway construction materials under an existing
DMG 111 mining permit. The site will now be used as a commercial mining operation.
The site is located on a terrace deposit along the Lake Fork of the Gunnison River. The deposit
consists of sand and gravel with a varying layer of topsoil and overburden. The topsoil varies in
depth from 0 inches to 12 inches.
The SCS has described and mapped the azea and provided information regazding the soil
characteristics of the site. The majority of the site is classified as the Boller Series (Boller
Sandy Loam) which consists of deep well drained terraces and alluvial fans that are comprised of
mixed alluvium, sand and gravel. These terraces aze normally 30 to 60 feet above streams.
Runoff is slow (high to moderate permeability) and erosion hazard is slight.
There are no streams crossing the proposed mining site. The site is located approximately 150
feet above the Lake Fork of the Gunnison River and does not have a standing groundwater table.
The operation will be completely dry with no water being used for processing. Water resources
in the azea will not be impacted by the proposed operation. There are no wetlands on the site and
thus will not require a 404 permit.
There aze no critical habitat or endangered species that would be impacted by the operation.
The only man-made structure within 200 feet is State Highway 149. The mining operation does
not propose to impact the State Highway.
Whinnery Pit
DMG 110 Pcrtnit Application
Page 2 of I4
