These native species have in the past supported wildlife and
• appear to be of high nutritional value.
4.18 (4) (i) (i) (B) Their uses as cover for fish and wildlife.
RESPONSE
Also included in the proposed seeding plan are native shrub
species.
These are expected to provide cover for wildlife. Also some
transplanting of shrubs will be attempted in order to establish
colonies in order to establish a potential seed source in the re-
claimed area.
4.18 (4) (i) (i) (C) Their ability to support and enhance fish and wildlife -~~
habitat after release of bonds; and. -`
RESPONSE
_I
Since native plant species have been emphasized in the reclama-
tion seeding plan it appears that there will be no problem with
• the longevity of the proposed plant species.
4.18 (4) (i) (ii) Distribute plant groupings to maximize benefit to fish
and wildlife. Plants should be grouped and distri-
buted in a manner which optimizes edge effect, cover
and other benefits for fish and wildlife;
4.18 (4) (j) Where crop land is to be the alternative postmining land -I
use on lands diverted from a fish and wildlife premining land use, and !I
where appropriate for wildlife and crop management practices, intersperse
the fields with trees, hedges, fence rows or areas of natural vegetation
throughout the cultivated area to break up large blocks of monoculture or -
to diversify habitat types for birds and other animals. Wetlands shall be -
preserved or created rather than drained or otherwise permanently abol-
ished; and -
RESPONSE
Cropland will not be the alternative postmining land use.
4.18 (4) (k) Where the primary land use is to be residential, public
. service, or industrial land use intersperse reclaimed lands with greenbelts jl
utilizing species of grass, shrubs and trees useful as food and cover for `~
birds and small animals, unless such green belts are inconsistent with the
approved postmining land use. -
