affected by the proposed activites, and proposed quan-
titative limits on pollutants in discharges subject to 4.05.2,
according to the more stringent of the following:
(A) These rules; or
(B) Other applicable State and Federal laws.
RESPONSE
Sediment ponds will be utilized to treat drainage from the af-
fected area. Treatment will consist of simple settling and con-
trolled release of the water. Clear water will be discharged from
the smaller ponds by decantation via manually operated siphons.
The discharge from the larger pond will be via a restricted flow
drop inlet structure and pumping. The water discharged from
the sediment ponds will meet the following limitations:
Maxunum Average
Iron, total (mg/1) 7.0 3.5
Manganese, total (mg/1) 4.0 2.0
Total suspended solids (mg/1) 45.0 30.0
• pH between 6.0 and 9.0
Discharges not falling within the above limits will be stopped and
natural oxidation and settlement allowed to continue until the
water is of acceptable quality. Batch treatment of the ponds
with appropriate flocculant or neutralizing chemicals will be
utilized if controlled natural processes are inadequate for un-
usual runoff conditions.
2.05.6 (3) (6)
(iii) A plan for the collection, recording, and reporting of ground
and surface water quality and quantity data, according to
4.05.13.
RESPONSE
Discharges for sediment ponds
Discharges from the sediment ponds will be intermittent in na-
ture, oaring in magnitude and frequency with natural runoff
. sources. Ground water contribution to the ponds will be mini-
mal.
