meeting to be held in llenver on :eptember 23, 1981, iontezuma County
ma~• be found in violation of tlTe tined Land Reclamation l.aw for
operating sand and gravel pits wit.lcout a permit. Despltc efforts to
postpone this meetin; due to the short notice and lack of time to
determine the nature of. any problems at the pits that mi•rht have
precluded our receipt of ttee permits, we were told failure to appear
as scheduled could result in civil pe:Talties ape' fines.
On September 23, 1951 Montezuma County did appear in an effort to
cooperate and work out an~• misunderstandiu;;s uiCh the Board. During
this meeting, tlLe N!in~el Land Reclamation Roard's staff edmitteel that
Montezuma Count•~ had submitrecl all necessary applications and that the
permits should have been approved by the State several years a;;o. The
Board's staff also recommended in view of these facts that any penalty
should be postponed ~ivin~ t!ontc:ume County b0 days [n update [he
applications, etc. 1^ontezefma County agreed 6!l days would be sufficient.
