~~

D.1 Description of t•1ining Methods

EXHIBIT D - MINING PLAN
Devegetation of a woody climax species, primarily pinyon and juniper,
from the site will be accomplished by "cabling" according to methods
approved by the Bureau of Land Management. This will be followed where
practical by topsoil removal and stockpiling. The removal of overburden,
consisting of mudstone, shale and some sandstone, will then begin by
using scrapers acid dozers. For approximately the first year and one-
half of the project only overburden will be removed. It is presently planned
tnat the first ore layers will then be exposed and ore removal will begin
using backhoes. Ore will then be mined simultaneously with over-
~~
burden removal. The ore will either be stockpiled on the project site
or loaded directly into highway trucks for haulage to the Whitewater
Sampling Facility and eventually transported to Cotter's Canon City mill.
Ore control monitoring will be conducted by use of geiger counters, T-
probes and a truck scanner.
D.2 Earthmoving
The mining methods discussed will be accomplished using the equipment
,listed in Table D.2-1. Approximately 100 people will be employed working
3 shifts per day, 6 days a week.

D-1
