Excavated material is being
placed in the haul road area. Walls of core trench are sloghing because they
are vertical. Contractor again asked about sloping walls. At 3:30 p. m., field
engineer was in process of running a gradation on blanket drain material, when
John Gates wanted field engineer to look at core trench. Trench is down to
bedrock but the material from the wa lls keeps sloughing so an area no wider
• than 12 feet can be kept open. John Gates and field engineer talked over pro-
blem and decided to excavate trench more on the north side and possibly bench
southwall to stop sloughing. Core t rench will probably be wider than originally
planned.
No tests taken because no fill placed to test. John Gates doesn't want tests
'on haul road area.
Equipment on the site included one 825 Caterpillar self-propelled sheepsfoot
roller; three 625 Caterpillr Push-Pull Scrapers, one blade, one D-6 and one
D-8.
• Copies to: n
Signed
Robert U.
