CTL/THOMPSON, INC. Daily Report k4
1701 South Federal Blvd.
• Denver, Colorado 80219 DATE 4/3/80 JOB N0. 6209
(303) 934-5473 Eckman Park, Mines 1 and 2
PROJECT Pond A
LOCATION Steamboat Springs, Colorado
CONTRACTOR R. N. Robinson & Sons
T0; ENERGY FUELS CORPORATION
OWNER Energy Fuels Corporation
BOX G
' WEATHER TEMP._oA.M._oP.M.
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLO. 80477
PRESENT AT SITE
THE FOLLOWING WAS NOTED:
Field engineer arrived at Energy Fuel's office at 12:15 p. m. Talked to John
Gates and delivered to him four sets of plans and two copies of specifications
for Pond A at approximately 1:00 p. m. Contractor was using large backhoe to
excavate core trench. Bedrock was encountered at a depth of approximately 16
to 20 feet below ground surface from Sta. 13+50 to Sta. 14+00. East end of
core trench at Elev. 6938 is approximately Sta. 13+25. Water was seeping
• into trench on south side at approximately 3 to 4 feet above bedrock. Contrac-
~ for agreed to put dry soil back into trench to seal off the water. Then, when
a long enough portion of the core trench has been opened so that equipment can
work in the trench, all dumped material will be pulled from the trench to a
depth of 2 to 3 feet into bedrock and placement and compaction of fill will
begin. Contractor hopes to start filling by middle of next week.
A sample of sand for possible use in blanket drain had been obtained by John
Gates. Gradation was set up to run the next day. Sand appears to be clean
to slighlty silty with a very small portion being retained on the No. 4 sieve.
Almost looks clean enough to use as concrete sand.
No density tests were taken, because no fill had been placed.
Material excavated from the core trench was being placed in the haul road
area, downstream of toe of embankment for Pond A.
Problems with walls of core trench being too steep and causing sloughing were
mentioned to John Gates. Field engineer recoinnended sloping the walls of the
core trench instead of leaving them virtually vertical.
Equipment on the site included one 825 Caterpillar self-propelled sheepsfoot
roller; three Caterpillar 627 Push-Pull Scrapers, one blade; one D-8, one
D-6, and one TC25.
• Copies to: ~a-~.
Signed Fe~`+ u' "~~~~
Robert U.
