Because the riparian area along the Colorado River is identified as important, the mining limits
are setback from the River a minimum of 100 feet. Also the mining occurs outside of the 100-
year floodplain.
The applicant has retained the services of wildlife biologist, Kirk Beattie, to monitor the
activities of the eagle pair and the heron during nesting season and to document any disturbances
to the birds from our existing Mamm Creek operation. The lack of any observed impacts to date
and the distance of the North Bank operation from the nests, indicate that no disturbances will
result.
The mining operation will remove substantial non-native vegetation on the site now. The
reclamation plan will install recommended seed mixes for our beneficial land use. A weed
control plan will be implemented, which will result in a decrease on noxious weeds on the site.
All cottonwood and willow trees in the setback and non-mined areas will be retained.
With the gravel processing plant for this material remaining on the south side of the River,
customary disturbances (noise and visual) of a gravel operation will not occur here.
The lakes and shoreline included in the reclamation plan will result in an overall increase of
wildlife habitat and opportunities for more variety of wildlife, than the pastureland now on the
site.
18. As part of the permit application, Appendix D, Lafarge supplied an "example weed
management plan" from Mamm Creek. Lafarge is fully aware that Russian Olives and Tamarisk
were added to the noxious weed list and once Lafarge ahs an approved CORP permit, seed
mixture, and reclamation plan, Lafarge will submit a site specific wed management plan that
addresses all of the concerns of the various permitting agencies.
6.4.12 EXHIBIT L -Reclamation Costs
19. De-watering the pits -See Item No. 2 and 3 above.
Cost for dewatering on a monthly are expected to be as follows:
Pump rental: $2,500
Diesel: $1,800
Labor: $1,000
TOTAL $5,300
For estimation of the bond, a 3-month charge would be $15,900.
Revegetate reclaimed mining face. Other than for the initial opening of the pit,
reclamation will occur concurrently with mining. Once the initial pit in Cell A has progressed
sufficiently to the east to allow room for operating, overburden from new areas to be mined will
5757 Central Avenue ~ Phone 303-443-2209
Boulder, Colorado 80301 GusTAVSON ASSOCIATES Fax: 303-443-3156
