1. Whole rock analysis using x-ray fluorescence
2. Acid base accounting
3. Leachability using the EPA 1312 test method
4. Humidity cell testing.
Results of these tests indicate limited potential for the waste rock to produce acid or leach
metals in quantities that would affect storrnwater drainage. In fact, most of the rock types
did not leach constituents in quantities that were above the analytical detection limits.
The results of these tests are contained in the approved DMG Permit and permit technical
revisions that are on file with DMG. The character of the rock based on these tests
indicates a low risk of contamination to receiving water as the result of contact with
runoff associated with surface stormwater. Therefore, sediment is considered to be the
primary contaminant that requires further management controls since most of the
facilities have been topsoiled and reclaimed.
6.0 POLLUTION SOURCE IDENTIFICATION AND RISK ASSESSMENT
This section of the stormwater management plan addresses each of the mine facility
azeas. The discussion for each area begins with a description of the potential source(s)
and type of pollutant(s), followed by a risk assessment of the potential for dischazges
from this area and preventive measures taken or to be taken to avoid a discharge. The
presentation for each azea concludes with a discussion of the good housekeeping and best
management practices implemented to prevent pollutant discharges. The locations for
each of the mine facilities discussed in this section aze shown in Figure 1.
6.1 Mining Area
Source
As discussed in the Facilities Description (Section 2.0), the East Pit and West Pit areas
have been backfilled and reclaimed. As discussed in the Areas Subject to Effluent
Limitations section (Section 4.0), a water treatment facility has been constructed and is
currently being operated to treat groundwater extracted from the West Pit. The approved
DMG permit includes diversion ditches to collect and convey upgradient stormwater
Battle Mountain Resources, Inc.
